Echo sounding

Measurement of  Ground-Topography and Sediment-Layers

Before putting into operation the actual reorganization measurements can and should be made. The basic topography can be determined by echo soundings very exactly.

With the help of the GPS technology exact locations for the measuring points are determined. These serve thereafter as points of reference for the exact suction dredger positioning.

The echo soundings take place parallel on two different frequencies. Thus on the one hand the sludge level can be determined and on the other hand the level of the underlaying naturally grown ground. From this the sediment developed through phosphate load or by washing ashore, deposited sediments can be calculated, and forms therafter basics of our offerings, it should be done for controlling purpose away.

The prepared data of the virtual basic topography is transfer into the on board computer of the suction dredger.

The board computer shows the suction dredger leader to whether it still clears away the sediments, approaches the naturally grown ground or clears away already from the ground. This can be quite intended if for example a harbor basin for larger ships should be made passable. The suction dredger leader has a virtual picture of the topography of the ground over which it is straight.

With this virtual topographycal map, with which the reality agrees, and by help of a DGPS, the suction dredger is brougth onto exactly defined locations. The exact positioning of the suction dredger takes place by means of differential GPS, fixed measuring points and an electronic compass.

The surface which can be worked on is divided into virtual suction dredger fields. Due to calculated sediment dimension for the respective location, a comparison can be employed between the calculated default in m3 and the actually inferred mud quantity in m3 at daily expiration.

Sand and mud masses are measured daily for their dry material value. These values become part of the daily report. (log book / statement of work ... )

At the end of the water reorganization, KS-net-AG recommends to accomplish itself a further echo sounding, in order to receive an overview about the pre- and post conditions of the reorganization. The last admission serves then as reference document for future reorganization projects.
